Moment of Inertia Measurement InstrumentsMoment of Inertia is a physical property that effects the rotation of an object. Therefore, MOI is critical in the design of golf equipment, rotating machinery, ballistics, projectiles, and aerospace hardware.

Inertia Dynamics manufactures the only instrument to quickly and accurately measure the actual moment of inertia of complex multi-material parts. CAD can tell you what the MOI should be. Our MOI instrument will tell you what it is. The new microprocessor-based embedded controls makes it fast and easy to use.

Ideal for use in design, production, and quality assurance, the Inertia Dynamics MOI instrument offers capability of 5 to 200 lbs, PC software, multi-units, offset center-of-gravity calculations, and repeatability.

The following important features are included:

  • Accuracy of ± .5% measurable MOI
  • Four line backlit LCD display for operator prompts and data
  • Sealed membrane keypad with tactile keys for easy location and operation
  • Offset CG calculations for parts which are not rotated on their CG
  • Constant monitoring of repeatability of timings to assure stability and detect false readings
  • RS-232 interface to PC (19,200 Baud)
  • Printing of setup data/constants as well as measurements
  • Easy-to-operate menu-driven interface
  • Unit may be re-calibrated in the field without a PC
  • Automatic pre-load option for use in secure environments

Options:

  1. Computer Software (CD ROM):
    The MOI Machine Controller Utility is a Windows-based application which allows communications with and management of a MOI instrument. The program is designed to run under the Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT4 operating systems. The program allows connection and disconnection to a MOI instrument. The instrument can be interrogated to identify itself and its data log can be saved or appended to an industry standard data file format. The instrument can also be configured to run in a user-defined default manner. The internal non-volatile memory in the instrument can be initialized by the program to enable initial factory set-up or changing of the language used by the instrument's user interface. The program also features a calculator designed to easily perform the most common calculations associated with MOI measurement.

  2. Automatic Actuation
    This version of our standard unit comes motorized for hands-free operation. It can automatically measure MOI remotely using the computer software (option 1) or by using the keypad.
