SC Series Wrap Spring Clutches

Spring Clutch Family
SC series spring clutches are available in 3 styles:
OR Overrunning
SS Start/Coast
SR Single Revolution

Overrunning/one way (OR) – This clutch continually drives the load. The load is allowed to overrun the input, should its speed exceed input speed. In the reverse direction the unit acts as a one-way clutch.

Start/Coast (SS) – The start/coast clutch is engaged until the collar which contains the spring tang is stopped. Once it is stopped, the load is disengaged and coasts to a stop.

Single Revolution (SR) – Attaching one end of the spring to the output hub results in a single revolution clutch. The load is stopped through the spring to the collar. Precise nonaccumulative error single revolution cycling is achieved. Braking torque equals 10% of the maximum torque rating.

Interchangeability
The SC family of clutches is designed to replace competitors' clutches. Special bore sizes and hub configurations are available upon request.

Non-Electric
SC series wrap spring clutches
require no electrical power since they can be mechanically actuated. This design provides you with trouble-free installation.

Higher Torque
The SC series wrap spring clutch
delivers more torque than a friction clutch of the same size.

Product Functions

Start-Stop (SC-SR Clutch)
Input drives the load in the direction of its rotation until the control collar is stopped by an actuator. The spring unwinds, and the output is stopped. The spring has two bent ends: one up into the control collar, the other into the output end. Brake torque is the unwind of the spring into the collar to the actuator; it is 10% of the clutch rating. When precise positioning or higher brake torque are required, the CB series must be used. Load can only be driven in one direction. CW and CCW units are available.

Start-Coast (SC-SS Clutch)
Input drives the load in the direction of its rotation until the control collar is stopped by an actuator. The spring has one end bent up into the control collar. The spring unwinds; the output is disengaged and coasts to a stop. On SAC and SA models, the actuator is solenoid operated, and power is applied to drive the load. Output will coast to stop when the solenoid is "off," and the actuator is in contact with the stop(dog) on the control collar. Load can only be driven in one direction. CW and CCW units are available.

Overrunning (SC-OR Clutch)
Input drives the load in the direction of its rotation (input drives output). When the input is reversed, the load (output) is not driven. The output can rotate faster than the input; if the output is reversed, it will drive input. Load can only be driven in one direction. CW and CCW units are available.
